If you want to succeed at the new farming --
sow lies
Distribute them widely, water them with fears, and wait while
they ripen --
harvest
Congratulations, you have raised America’s greatest cash
crop --
outrage
It’s the new plastic and people are getting rich --
trust me
If you don’t mind a little dirt, the terrific thing about
the new farming is this:
it pays.
*A waltmarie is a ten-line poem in which the even lines are all
two syllables in length and form their own mini-poem if read separately.
Bravo! Timely and TRUE! It's a new form for me, too; I'm hoping Ive done it justice. Salute!
ReplyDeleteWell done! Your mini-poem within the poem is a beaut – bitter and disillusioned, yet clear and powerful.
ReplyDeleteAnd I very much share your sentiments. (I'm not American, but I think things are much the same all over.)
Enjoyed this....your sentiments are shared by many of us but then again you have a small problem with the 74 million. Good luck Take care
ReplyDeleteDon't remind us! One of them is my own brother, poor deluded man.
DeleteI like this very much. Lies do pay.
ReplyDeleteA huge WOW from me .... Sign o' the times.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun write. It made me smile.
ReplyDeleteSo timely (and painfully true). A great write!
ReplyDeleteAll the while the rest of the world looks on and shakes their heads with disbelief that this could happen in the US.
ReplyDeleteWay too damned true!
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing a sow can do is to lay on her babies. For sure she is not Goldilocks. A farmer cannot make a living anymore with a small farm. It takes a few thousand acres. Ours when growing up was 120 acres and 40 of it was pasture.
ReplyDelete..
Powerful statements in this piece. Well done
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, this is impressive! Outrage as a cash crop is a spot-on metaphor.
ReplyDeleteThank you all for your comments.
ReplyDeletelies and outrage - what happened to listening and tolerance. sigh.
ReplyDeleteThis speaks loudly and truthfully. Well done, Graham!
